Hobbs Bonded Fibers to Open Manufacturing Plant in Tennessee

TRENTON, Tenn. (July 12, 2006) — Hobbs Bonded Fibers is a private family-owned company based in Waco, Texas, and the Trenton operation will become its second plant, where they will manufacture acoustical insulation for automobiles.

Hobbs Bonded Fibers Co., one of North America's largest and most technically advanced fiber processing companies, has announced its decision to open a new manufacturing facility Trenton, creating an initial 25 start-up jobs.

The company said it chose the Trenton area because the location, size and cost of the building fit its overall need. Hobbs Bonded Fibers is a private family-owned company based in Waco, Texas, and the Trenton operation will become its second plant, where they will manufacture acoustical insulation for automobiles.

“Hobbs Bonded Fibers is very excited to be locating a plant in Trenton,” said Hobbs Automotive Division Director Taylor Hobbs. “Everyone has been very helpful from the state and local government and the business community. We hope have a long-term and profitable location here.”

The company will occupy an existing building, located at 1236 South Manufacturers Row. The building previously housed Tecumseh, a manufacturer of hermetic motors and components for the automotive industry.

Hobbs specializes in developing and manufacturing specialty non-woven products for industrial and consumer markets. The use of synthetic, natural and specialty fibers allows Hobbs Bonded Fibers the flexibility to design products to a customer’s specifications.

Hobbs Bonded Fibers has managed to partner with important companies in a number of different areas, including automotive and military projects. Among the company’s most notable clients, include 3M and the “Big Three” car companies – GM, Toyota and Ford.

The automotive industry has been a major area of growth for the company, and through this they have worked on developing products such as natural and synthetic fibers for use in Acoustic Thermal Insulation for cars. The company plans to continue working with the suppliers to adapt and create products for use in future car designs.

In addition to automotive, Hobbs has focused on military projects as well. Some of the more publicized products that have come out of the company’s R&D department include a sub-component to the X-35 and F-22 joint strike fighters and a protective thermal insulation for the trans-habitat Mars Project. This insulation that Hobbs is providing for the trans-habitat is a crucial element for the future success of NASA’s Mars project.
