Nachi Fujikoshi Group, a major Japanese manufacturer of industrial machinery and tools for the automotive industry, opened a new Charlotte, N.C., manufacturing facility last month. Nachi Precision North Carolina, Inc. has leased 12,600 square feet in the Lindbergh Business Park near the intersection of Freedom Drive and I-85.
The Charlotte operation regrinds and recoats precision tools used to manufacture parts for the automotive sector. Nachi Precision’s sister company, Nachi Machining Technology Co. in Macomb, Mich., cites the southward migration of car and auto parts manufacturers as a primary factor in the decision to locate in Charlotte. The growing automotive industry presence in the South is generating high demand for accurate, precision tools.
Nachi Precision will initially employ nine workers in Charlotte. The company’s production facility is highly automated, and management projects significant new capital investment over the next three years as the operation expands.
Nachi also considered locations in the Greenville-Spartanburg area before choosing Charlotte. The Charlotte Chamber worked closely with Nachi over several months during the site selection phase of the project.
