Viking Range Corp. recently announced the latest addition to its Greenwood, Miss., operations. The company broke ground on an 87,000 square foot dishwasher manufacturing plant, which will include 7,000 square feet of office space and 80,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
“I’m delighted to see the continued growth of an exemplary Mississippi-grown company,” said Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. “Viking’s continued success demonstrates what Mississippi can do when we strive for excellence and innovation while preserving a strong sense of community.”
“The new Viking dishwashers produced in this facility will be state-of-the-art in every way. Viking is raising the bar in dishwasher design and performance and we are extremely proud to be doing it here in Leflore County,” said Liston Durden, Viking’s senior vice president for marketing.
Current employment at Viking in Greenwood is approximately 1,200. The new dishwasher plant will add roughly 200 jobs. Viking dishwashers were being manufactured in Sweden, and this addition will move those manufacturing operations to the U.S. The dishwasher plant is expected to come online in February 2007.
In addition to the new dishwasher plant, Viking recently acquired and is in the process of renovating another building in which to relocate its service department and service parts warehousing and distribution operations. This new facility will consolidate all components of the Viking service division, as well as free up office space at the Viking refrigeration plant for 14 refrigeration engineers who will relocate from Memphis, Tenn. Total investment for these projects will be approximately $11 million and will result in about 250 new jobs in Leflore County when complete.
