ConverPro, a Canadian paper products company, will open a facility in Stanly County, N.C., creating 87 new jobs and investing $9 million over the next three years. The announcement will be supported by an $80,000 One North Carolina Fund grant.
Quebec-based ConverPro will recycle paper into tissue and paper towel products at a 60,000 square foot building in Oakboro. While wages will vary by job function, the expected average weekly wage of the new jobs is $555 plus benefits, which is greater than the Stanly County average weekly wage of $517, not including benefits.
"After considering several locations in the Southeast, we selected North Carolina because of the availability of skilled workers they have to offer,"said Denis Ellefsen, Converpro’s director of operations. "This location will also help us better serve our customers in the region."
The One North Carolina Fund assists the state in industry recruitment and expansion by providing financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. One North Carolina Fund grants require and are contingent on a local match.
