Ice River Springs, a Canadian spring water bottling company, will open a plant in Burke County, creating 53 new jobs and investing $12 million over the next three years. State economic development officials approved a $100,000 One North Carolina Fund grant.
Ice River Springs will manufacture capped plastic bottles and North Carolina spring water at a facility in Morganton. While wages will vary by job function, the expected average weekly wage of the new manufacturing positions is $630 (not including benefits), which is higher than the Burke County average weekly wage of $550, not including benefits.
"North Carolina is an ideal location for our company," said Jamie Gott, president of Ice River Springs. "This new facility will give us better access to our customer base, as well as an experienced work force and great support from local and state governments."
The One North Carolina Fund assists the state in industry recruitment and expansion by providing financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. One North Carolina Fund grants require and are contingent upon a local match. Through the use of this Fund, more than 18,000 jobs and $2.5 billion in investment have been created since 2001.
