Bal Seal Engineering, provider of industry-leading solutions that incorporate unique material science and canted-coil spring technology, announces the addition of a second manufacturing facility to be located in Colorado Springs, Colo. The opening of the new facility is motivated by the company’s desire for an additional manufacturing facility to mitigate concerns over supply chain risk.
The leased 15,000 square foot facility, located in the Garden Tech Industrial Center, is dedicated to Bal Seal Engineering’s rapidly growing Medical Products Group. It will initially employ approximately 20 machinists engaged in the production of precision components for implantable medical electronics devices. In coming months, the facility’s work force is expected to grow to more than 100 employees as additional operations are activated in the facility.
Bal Seal Engineering anticipates moving the Colorado Springs operation to a permanent 50,000 square foot facility in 2008.
Jacques Naviaux, Bal Seal Vice Chairman, spent several months scouting locations in the Western United States before selecting Colorado Springs.
“Colorado Springs best matched our business needs,” he says, “and possesses a highly educated workforce.”
The Colorado Springs facility will manufacture components for Bal Seal Medical Products Group customers such as St. Jude, Medtronic, Boston Scientific and other major companies.
Naviaux worked closely with the Greater Colorado Springs Economic Development Corp. in the site selection process.
Bal Seal is headquartered in Foothill Ranch, Calif., with about 420 employees in that facility and an additional 15 employees in its European office in Amsterdam.
