Elkamet, a German-based manufacturer of plastic parts and assemblies for the electrical, automotive and building construction machines industries, will open a facility in Hendersonville, N.C., creating 50 jobs and investing $4.85 million over the next three years. The announcement was made possible in part by a $125,000 One North Carolina Fund grant.
The Elkamet facility in Hendersonville will manufacture nylon tanks and tank assemblies for the construction and agricultural industries. While wages will vary by job function, the expected average weekly wage of the new jobs is higher than the Henderson County average weekly wage of $558 plus benefits.
"The positive business atmosphere created by the county commissioners as well as by the local business community in Henderson County and excellent training programs for the employees provided by Blue Ridge Community College supported the decision to locate the new plant in North Carolina," said Eberhard Flammer, president of Elkamet. "The ongoing support of the project by the Department of Commerce was also important to us."
The One North Carolina Fund assists the state in industry recruitment and expansion by providing financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. One North Carolina Fund grants require and are contingent upon a local match. Through the use of this Fund, more than 18,000 jobs and $2.5 billion in investment have been created since 2001.
