Yahoo officials announced their decision to relocate a customer care center from Sunnyvale, Calif., to Hillsboro, Ore., bringing approximately 70 family-wage jobs to the metropolitan Portland area by the end of July 2005, with the goal of 180 jobs over the next two years.
The Governor, the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department (OECDD) and County and City officials have worked in partnership to recruit Yahoo! to Hillsboro, providing the following financial incentives:
Oregon has committed approximately $180,000 from the Governor’s Strategic Reserve Fund to assist the company in the costs associated with relocating its customer care center from Sunnyvale, which is contingent on the company’s commitment to create 180 jobs within the next two years – and 70 by the end of 2005.
Yahoo will also receive a Workforce Response Training fund grant of $100,000 to be used for incumbent worker training after the company has been located in Oregon for 120 days.
Oregon's Jobs Plus program and the services of the Region II One-Stop Center have been offered to Yahoo for employee recruitment purposes.
The regional partners of the City of Hillsboro, City of Beaverton and Washington County have also contributed financial assistance to enable to this relocation.
