AC Cars, Great Britain’s oldest sports car company, will build its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Bridgeport, Conn. AC Cars Manufacturing (USA) Inc. will occupy a 40,000 square foot facility and create 141 jobs.
The $4.5 million project – covering space acquisition and equipment purchase and installation – is being supported by a proposed $1.5 million fully secured loan from the Department of Economic and Community Development for site preparation, construction, machinery and equipment and moving expenses. The funding will require approval from the State Bond Commission.
“AC Cars is proud to be bringing auto making back to Connecticut,” said Alan Lubinsky, Chairman of AC Cars. “Bridgeport, home to innovators like as P.T. Barnum and William Armstrong, is a city rich with heritage. Our company shares that sense of history and pride within the auto world. In fact, in the very same building we are launching our U.S. operation, William Armstrong built one of the first automobiles in 1895. AC Cars looks forward to being a part of Bridgeport’s economic resurgence, and we see a tremendous opportunity for growth and success in the years ahead.”
It is expected that the new facility will begin production of the AC Ace, AC MKVI and AC Mamba models next summer. Established in 1901, AC Cars is the oldest British auto brand.
