Executives of FabCare International, LLC recently announced that FabCare will begin operations in Celina, Tenn., bringing about 60 jobs to the area. The Department of Economic and Community Development approved a $519,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Clay County to assist in infrastructure improvements for FabCare.

The grant helped the community in building acquisition and equipment purchase funding for the $628,750 project, which included $125,750 in company funds.

FabCare is a garment manufacturer that uses a stonewashing process for clothing and incorporates a chemical treatment on clothing so fabrics keep their color for a longer period of time. The corporation purchased the facility where the former Oshkosh B’Gosh plant was housed, which is located on Mitchell Street in downtown Celina.

“I’m glad FabCare chose to expand its operations in Clay County, helping boost the region’s economy and providing job opportunities for nearby residents,” said Jerry Stewart, CEO of FabCare. “I commend Clay County executives and the ECD for working out a way for the company to purchase an existing facility.”

Funds for the CDBG program are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and are allocated under a procedure authorized by the Tennessee General Assembly. As now administered, allocation of the CDBG funds is based on priorities set at local levels where community needs are best known. The CDBG program is administered in Tennessee by the Department of Economic and Community Development.
