ITT Industries Night Vision (ITT) announced that it will invest up to $51.8 million to expand its facility capacity in Roanoke County and create 250 new jobs. The need for ITT’s increased production is the result of a continued swell in global demand for night vision products. The company also is preparing to produce a new product — procured and currently being tested by the U.S. Army—that combines thermal imaging and image intensification technology, the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle.
ITT, based in Roanoke, is the world’s leading developer, producer and supplier of Generation 3 image intensification technology for U.S. and allied military forces, as well as federal, state and local law enforcement. ITT’s parent company, ITT Industries, Inc., supplies advanced technology products and services in key markets including: fluid and water management; defense communication, opto-electronics, information technology and services; electronic interconnects and switches; and other specialty products.
“ITT is grateful for partners like Virginia and Roanoke County whose attentiveness and support make growth as a business easier,” said Larry Curfiss, vice president and director of business development. “Because of our county and state partnership and talented work force, we are able to help protect those who protect us.”
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Roanoke County to support the company’s contract bid for this work. Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner approved a $700,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Roanoke County with the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will support the project with training assistance through its Workforce Services Program.
