IBM announced that it will add approximately 50 new high tech jobs to its operation in Tucson. With this addition, IBM will employ roughly 1,800 in Tucson, with an annual local payroll over $155 million.
“As a member of the local business community since 1978, the addition of these high tech jobs further demonstrates IBM’s commitment to Tucson, an excellent home for our employees to live and innovate,” said Terri Mitchell, IBM senior state executive for IBM in Arizona. “Our Tucson site has evolved into a world class center for data storage development, while at the same time, our employees have become increasingly dedicated participants in the local community.”
In 2004, IBM Tucson employees donated over $800,000 in cash and technology to schools and local non-profits. More than 800 employees volunteered for various community groups during the past year.
IBM's Tucson site now serves as the company's development headquarters for IBM's disc and tape software, hardware and systems.
In 2004, IBM and its employees paid more than an estimated $12 million in state income, local sales and property taxes. IBM has a total of over 3,700 employees and 3,000 retirees living throughout Arizona.
