In a recent groundbreaking ceremony, Edwards & Associates, which specializes in service, refurbishment and worldwide sales of new and pre-owned helicopters, announced its plans to construct a new 140,000 square foot facility on 37 acres in the Tri-County Industrial Park in Piney Flats, between Bristol and Johnson City. The new facility will include five buildings, with construction of its main building to take place over a 14-month period and the construction of a Bell 210 Helicopter production facility to take place over six months.

Currently, the company occupies three buildings in the Tri-County Industrial Park and occupies 200,000 square feet. The expansion will represent an $8 million investment by the company, and will add 100 new employees. Hiring at the company has been ongoing for the past six months with 35 new jobs already created. The company plans to add another 65 positions over the next 24 months.

Company executives said due to increased orders and more capacity needs, Piney Flats in Sullivan County was a natural choice for the expansion since the operation is such an important part of the company’s revenue stream.

The state, along with the local community and other economic development partners including TVA, are providing a combined $1.1 million in economic incentives, including job training assistance, infrastructure support, jobs tax credit, applicant screening and on-the-job training services.

Founded in 1977, Edwards & Associates was purchased by Bell Helicopter in August of 1999.
