BorgWarner Turbo Systems, a producer of automotive turbo charging systems, will invest $40 million to expand its Buncombe County manufacturing facility, creating 111 new jobs during the next three years. The expansion was made possible in part by a $250,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund.
BorgWarner Turbo Systems, headquartered in Germany, manufactures a range of automotive products for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and industrial engines. The company currently employs 700 people in Buncombe County.
While individual jobs and wages will vary, the new positions will pay an average wage of $725 per week in addition to benefits. That is higher than the Buncombe County average wage of $544 a week. The $40 million investment will primarily go toward buying new machinery and equipment to expand the facility’s production capacity and help the company meet growing demand.
"BorgWarner Turbo Systems was pleased with the support of the One North Carolina Fund in helping us to continue our expansion in North Carolina," said Brad Norton, vice president and general manager for the Americas, Borg Warner Turbo Systems. "This also enables us to leverage our state-of-the-art facility in Asheville, which was established in 1980."
The One North Carolina Fund helps the state recruit and expand quality jobs by providing financial assistance to businesses or industries deemed by the governor to be vital to a healthy and growing state economy. Through the use of this Fund, more than 17,000 jobs and $2 billion in investment have been created since 2001.
