Caremark Rx, Inc., a leading pharmacy benefits manager, announced plans to open a state-of-the-art customer care center in Nashville, Tenn., that will position the company to better serve the growth of its business. New contracts and the anticipated new business related to the implementation of the Medicare Part D benefit have spurred recent opportunities and led to the expansion.
The customer care center will receive calls from participants in benefit plans provided by corporate employers, health plans and governmental agencies, including those enrolled in the new Medicare Part D benefit.
The Nashville facility, the second in the state, will begin operations in mid-July at Metro Center, and will complement other call centers the company operates in Arizona, California, Missouri and Texas. The Nashville call center will be capable of handling 350,000 calls per month by year-end and will employ approximately 600 people when it reaches full capacity in two to three years.
“When we relocated our corporate headquarters to Nashville we felt that Nashville and Tennessee would be attractive as a home for some of our core operations as well. We are pleased that the growth of our business requires this new facility, particularly in Nashville,” said Mac Crawford, Caremark Chairman, CEO and President. “We have an extremely successful call center in Knoxville and we are highly committed to the Nashville marketplace, firmly recognizing the area’s geographical convenience, superior infrastructure and talented workforce.”
Caremark worked extensively with the Nashville Chamber of Commerce to coordinate this effort.
“We knew from day one how fortunate we were that Mac Crawford and his management team decided to relocate Caremark’s headquarters to Nashville almost two years ago,” said Janet Miller, senior vice president of economic development for the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. “This latest announcement reinforces Caremark’s commitment to the region and absolutely reflects the collaborative efforts of our partnership with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Community Development and the Tennessee Valley Authority.”
The call center is 94,000 square feet, with room for expansion. Jim Smith of Colliers Turley Martin Tucker represented Caremark in lease negotiations. Steve Preston of Duke Realty represented Duke, which owns the building.
