From entry-level workers to engineers, companies are seeking skilled workers.
"Most ominously, some 60 percent (of companies) say the lack of adequately skilled workers makes it difficult to maintain production levels necessary to meet demand, and 40 percent say they can't implement new productivity improvements," said Jerry J. Jasinowski, president of the NAM.
Survey results indicated that the biggest problem among current hourly employees and those applying for hourly positions is a lack of basic employability skills - including timeliness and a work ethic.
Employers cited additional problems such as poor reading and writing skills, and deficiencies in basic math, communication, and English language skills.
