With most people worrying about the verbal pollution caused by political campaigns,
it's nice to know that someone is paying attention to the solid waste left behind
as our politicos vie for jobs.
According to the Wilmington News Journal, a Delaware state legislator is
proposing a bill that would require candidates to pay for any sign left standing
a week after the election. Each offense would cost a campaign $10, the amount the
bill's sponsor says it costs to pay a highway worker to remove a single sign.
In order to ensure payment, candidates would be required to post a bond before
running, in amounts of up to $50,000 for statewide candidates. Opponents argue that
this will keep poor candidates out of the process, if they cannot afford the security
needed to post the bond.
Sounds like the next great Constitutional crisis.
